Stomach surgery for obese teens
The first hospital in England offering stomach operation for overweight teenagers could be in South Yorkshire
Banding procedure is used to treat obese situations in adults but is very rare for children and teens.
The surgery is similar to stomach-stapling and a consultant at Sheffield Children's Hospital said it was taken
into consideration for early teens of patients. The surgeon procedure means to reduce the size of stomach

"We have one or two children we are considering some form of gastro-surgery for their weight problem," he said.
Dr Neil Wright said he was unaware of this type of surgery being used on other teenagers in the UK. he also
added that before having this operation, children and teenagers have the right to education and information in order
to be able to take the best decision on their own.
"We have not carried out any surgery yet, there have been no operations, but if an operation will take place, it will be as a last option.
