Obesity causes cancer
Many studies concluded that too much body fat can influence cancer development and cancer mortality a
various number of ways. Body fat increases the levels of estrogen in the blood, raising the risk of
cancers of the reproductive system. It also amplifies the risk of acid reflux, which can result in cancer
of the esophagus. It causes high levels of insulin, making the body prone to create a hormone which causes
cells to multiply in an uncontrolled way specific to malignant tumors.
On the other hand, obesity and overweight also make cancer harder to diagnose and treat. It's harder to
see or feel bumps and lumps, and some patients don't fit into CAT scanners.
According to the a major study targeting the link between weight and cancer mortality, obesity causes
one of every six cancer deaths in the United States. This conclusion places obesity as the
second-highest cancer risk factor after smoking. Apparently it accounts for about 20% of cancer deaths in
women and 14% in men.
Prostate, liver and ovarian cancers were associated to obesity for the first time. Previous reports linked
obesity and overweight with breast, kidney, colon and uterine cancers and this recent study reconfirmed once more.
Obesity is associated with many more cancers than we recognized before, so that loosing weight people can save
the life of one in every six cancer sufferers.
